The storage challenge
The Gartner Group reports the global appetite for storage growing at around 70% per year. The implications of this is where to put all this valuable enterprise data, how to keep it secure and make it easily accessible to the right people at the same time?
Traditional Storage Architecture
IT administrators can receive thousands of storage requests, and responding is increasingly time-consuming especially with a limited staff. With the coming of the virtualization age, new automated data management controls, more capacious media, faster and cooler-running processors, things have changed for the better in the storage space.

The Hyperconverged Storage Solution
Hyperconverged technologies appeal to storage managers because it gives them greater control over storage provisioning in a virtual server environment. In addition to providing administrators with single pane of glass management capabilities, hyperconverged storage nodes can be connected and scale out horizontally. This allows administrators to create a distributed storage infrastructure in which direct-attached storage (DAS) components from each physical server are combined to create a logical pool of disk capacity.

As the diagram above illustrates, a hyperconverged infrastructure natively integrates compute and storage into a single x86-based server. These servers are deployed in scale-out clusters as and when you need them. When compared to the traditional approach of 3 tier infrastructure consisting of a server, storage network and storage arrays they reduce the amount of power and space needed and dramatically eliminate storage complexity.
